All the Modern furniture classics

This year’s field trip was in Copenhagen.
As ever It’s a chance to see different perspectives – a kind of permission to absorb how other cities do things. As committed urban enthusiasts we’re drawn to the usual suspects; architecture, wayfinding, the design grain of the city, food… you notice small things more quickly when you change your routines. None of it is dramatic on its own, but it adds up to make subtle differences you can take influence from. Character, I suppose.
The simple fact of being somewhere else together, without meetings to get back to and no immediate pressure to turn anything into an outcome, changes the conversations – and the pace of things. It’s good to absorb what’s around us and, best of all, each others company.
We’ll spend time in museums and galleries. This time it included Design Museum Danmark to see the Japanese Modern posters exhibition and the beautiful permanent collection of Danish Modern furniture.

The Botanical Gardens (we’re biophiles too!) led us to the grand greenhouse – a welcome respite from minus five in the snow.

Noma Projects

Noma Projects took things in a different direction; process and flavour shaped a tasting menu of savoury garums and coffee that lightened both palate and wallet. What stayed with us most was the sheer commitment to experimentation.

HAY

It’s always good to visit Kødbyen. There’s something of our own Baltic Triangle in it – reused buildings, a mix of industry creativity and nightlife, and a place still defining itself. Warpigs continues to inspire our work with Black Lodge Brewing, and Gorilla rounded things off with an excellent dinner.
But just as much time was spent walking, sitting, watching. Cafés, transport, streets that feel finished and ones that don’t are almost as enticing as the main events. That everyday fabric is usually more useful to our design brains than the expected headline moments.
We came back with lots of photos, a few notes, design trinkets (HAY this time) and a slightly different view of the work we’re doing.
It’s refreshing, inspiring and a way of saying thank you.
Looking forward to the next one!
